    About York Serial Numbers

York uses two main serial number formats to encode manufacturing dates:

    • Style 1 (2004-Present): Format like W0K5896070
      • Positions 2 & 4 (numbers) combined = Year (e.g., "0" + "5" = 2005)
      • Position 3 (letter) = Month (A=Jan, B=Feb, C=Mar, D=Apr, E=May, F=Jun, G=Jul, H=Aug, K=Sep, L=Oct, M=Nov, N=Dec)
    • Style 2 (1971-2004): Format like WAKM011379
      • Position 2 (letter) = Month (same letter code as Style 1)
      • Position 3 (letter) = Year (A=1971/1982, B=1972/1993, C=1973/1994, etc.)
      • Note: Some serials start with a letter in parenthesis like (S)EBHM062202 - the letter in parenthesis is ignored

The serial number is typically found on a metal nameplate attached to your York unit, usually on the side or back panel.
